You're thinking of a leafcutting bee. They carry pollen on the underside of their abdomen instead of on their hind legs like common honey and bumble bees do. They have long hairs on their abdomens that form a pollen basket. This lets them trap the pollen against their bodies and carry it while they fly.
Why? I dunno, I guess they just evolved that way.
