Which of the following is an example of asexual reproduction?

A. Mrs. Floyd gives her neighbor a leaf from one of her African violets so the neighbor can start a new plant with it.

B. Mrs. Floyd gives her neighbor some seeds that frew in her garden so the neighbor can plant a garden next year.

C. Mrs. Floyd takes pollen from one plant and uses it to fertilize another plant.

D. Mrs. Floyd prevents one type of sweet corn in her garden from pollinating another type of sweet corn in her garden.

Which of the following is an example of asexual reproduction?
Hello,

It is "A".

When it reads on a plant label......."Asexual reproduction" Prohibited, they ARE referring propagating more plants by means of taking and using cuttings from this specific plant.

Hope this helps,

Dave
Reply:A is the answer.
Reply:i'm pretty sure its c but i don't know
Reply:The answer is non of the above.

A) is a technique called cutting, but is not a form of reproduction - its a for of propegation. This can also be called cloning as the new plant is a genetic reproduction of the original plant.

b) could be asexual reproduction, but not enough info is provided as it does not say whether the plant the seeds came from was self pollinated

c) is the eact opposite of asexual reproduction

d) isnt anything at all but an unpollinated flower.

asexual reproduction in plants is when a plant is pollinated by its own pollen - it is self polinated - asexual reprodution means the plant reprodued on its own without the genetic material of another plant.

Asexual reproduction does not result in a clone as the offspring will not be a genetic match to the parent. This is very evident in plants. self pollinated plants can produce offspring with different colored leaves, flowers, etc, which is why sooo many plants sold today are grown from cuttings or dividing mature plants - because even self pllinated plants most often result in plants that are varied.

Lets use an Iris plant as an example.

Every year an Iris will produce two new pseudobulbs as well as flowers. these pseudobulbs will eventually break off and become a seperate plant - giving you two Irises (this is also how you grow potatoes). At the same time, the Iris will rpduce flowers that when pollinated will produce seeds.

The growth of new bulbs is one method of reproduction called cloning and the second plant is genetically identical to the first.

The production of seeds is the second method is another form of reproduction that results in a genetically different offspring. If the Iris pollinated itself - uses its own pollin for fertilization it asexually reproducing itself. Whether self pollinated or not, the seeds will produce plants that are all genetically unique.

While both of these methods achieve the intended goal of reproduction, only one is asexual reproduction.
Reply:I think it's A
