What could be the cause of a persistent cough?

About a month ago, I was out working in my yard. I have allergies to the normal summer stuff like grass %26amp; pollen. That night I was having a bad case of runny nose and coughing. The next morning I woke up with what seemed like a really bad cold. Lots of sneezing, coughing, sniffling, etc etc. The coughing would get so bad that I would actually vomit from it. This went on for almost a week, until finally the cold went away. However, a month later, I still have the cough and can feel blockage in my throat or chest when I cough. I am able to cough up mucas and sometimes can't breathe because it is so thick. I don't have medical insurance to have a doctor check it out, but I need to know what this could be?

What could be the cause of a persistent cough?
It could be many different things: an infection in your lungs, asthma as a result of your alergies, a persistant bad cold, etc. etc. Insurance or no insurance, splurge and have it checked out by a doctor. After all, many of us spend a lot more taking care of our cars than we do our own bodies!
Reply:just because you dont have insurance doesnt mean you cant get medical care. county/public facilities are required to treat you regardless of insurance or not. costs are much less than youd think, and you dont have to pay but $20 a month once you get a bill. 20 bucks is just a number, you can pay more or less depending on your ability. but paying something keeps the collectors at bay. go get checked out. probably something like allergy, asthma, bronchitis, or at worse a viral pneumonia.
Reply:You might have bronchitis or asthma both have similar symptoms. Ifs its bronchitis you probably need to be treated with antibiotics. You could try one of the over counter allergy medicines that has antihistamines in it for your allergies. Mucinex a over the counter drug is excellent for loosing up and thinning mucus in the chest and lungs. It contains the drug guaifenesin. This drug is an expectorant. This drug is also in some expectorant cough syrups, but mucinex works better because it has a higher doss of guaifenesin than the cough syrups. If you are wheezing you might have asthma. They have an over the counter medicine called primatine that helps relieve asthma.
Reply:This could be either due to allergic bronchitis or bronchial asthma
Reply:It could be asthma or a respirtory infection check to see of there is an free clinic in your area.
Reply:asthma, you need inhaled steroids, asmanex or flovent! the tickle is your airways inflamed and swelling closed causing cough and more irritation, go to doctor and get inhaled meds before you get sicker, maybe even allergy meds for a while, allegra 180 is what i use along with asmanex!
Reply:Call your doctor and find out what is causing your cough. It could be a lot of things causing it.
Reply:It could be a number of things, asthma, bronchitis but if you have had it for awhile you better get it checked out. You may need antibiotics if you have some kind of infection.
Reply:could be a load of different things causeing it, you should go and get some medical help
