Does anyone have a good alternative to using Sudafed for allergies?

I've been diagnosed with an enlarged prostate and sudafed tends to make that problem worse. I've seen that Thumus Extracts and Quercetin are suppose to be good for allergies, also bee pollen. Anybody had any luck with this? Thanks...

Does anyone have a good alternative to using Sudafed for allergies?
Avoid herbals, etc. They interact with medications and are not FDA regulated. They are the origin of modern day medications and herbals do have adverse effects. Pseudoephedrine (Sudafed) is a decongestant used in allergy symptom relief and you already know it can worsen BPH, which you have. Decongestants treat symptoms but antihistamines suppress the allergic response itself. Please, please discuss this with your doctor or Allergist to determine which is the safest and most effective antihistamine for you.

Reply:If you need something to clear you out like suedafed I would recommend an expectorant. Most cough syrups have it and Musinex is a 12hr expectorant. It dries you out , it is what was used before suedafed. Check with your Dr or pharmacists to make sure it does not react with your other medication
Reply:Homoeopathy is the only solution to your problem
Reply:Go to your local pharmacy and ask the pharmacist. He/she will tell you exactly what you can take for your problem. There are many medications for allergy out there just need to find out what's good for you.
Reply:yeah, pseudoephedrine does exactly opposite of what a lot of prostate relief drugs like prazosin do.

you could just use an antihistamine (claritan, benadryll, chlorophenerimine, etc)... that would dry things up if you are having a runny nose. if you are just stuffy/congested, pretty much all OTC decongestants work the same way and will effect your prostate. you could get a saline rinse... if you dont know what im talking about go to http://www.neilmed.com to get an idea... kinda gross but it works well.

you could also use a spray like Afrin; i wouldnt think that enough would be absorbed into your blood to affect your prostate, but if you go that route double check with a pharmacist to make sure im correct about that. you can only use Afrin and similar products for a couple days, otherwise you get hooked on it and you'll always be congested without the spray until you ween yourself off of it.
Reply:Unless you are taking a Sudafed product that is labeled something like Sudafed Allergy, you shouldn't be taking it for allergy problems. For allergy problems you should be taking an antihistimine, not a decongestant. Antihistimines do not affect prostate problems (according to my dad's doctor). Take something like Claritin or Benadryl and see how that goes...Just check with the pharmacist if you are taking any other medications to make sure there aren't any contraindications.
Reply:sudafed only helps with stuffy nose.

Claritin, Allegra, Zyrtec and Clarinex would help. Claritin is the only one that's available over the Counter. Benadryl would help too, but it is way too sedating to be taken on a daily basis.

do you know what are you allergic to? if it is dust or pet danders, reducing the dust level at home by vacuuming / getting a air purifier would help. basically stay away from what is causing the problem
