Can you help me identify a creepy looking insect?

Ok, to make a long story short, at 10pm I opened my front door and saw this HUGE insect getting pollen out of my flowers on my front porch. His wings were beating so fast I thought it might be a tiny hummingbird. I opened the door, and turned on the porch light and got a closer look. It most definately was not a humming bird! Anyway, it had wings that were about 2-2.5 inches in length, an abdomen that was about 2" long. I should also mention the abdomen was shaped just like a "Bugel" as well. (you know, in the potato chip isle). And his wings were going very fast.. and he made no noise. What kind of bug does this sound like?

Can you help me identify a creepy looking insect?
If it's a creepy insect, it's probably my ex-wife.
Reply:Hummingbird Moth----we have them here in Montana. They eat pollen and have like a rolled up snout that unrolls and gets the pollen from the flowers. They are neat but hard to see as they like to come at dusk to feed.
Reply:It was probably a moth. Moths feed on nectar just like butterflies.

Here's a picture of one in the act:
Reply:It sounds like a freaky creature, kinda sounds like a june bug.
Reply:Sounds like my ex looking for my wallet.
Reply:It is called a hummingbird hawk moth.Looks like a hummingbird.Even likes the same flowers, but it is a moth.
Reply:Sounds like some type of hawk moth. They look like hummingbirds at first glance, %26amp; do most of the same things.

Reply:possibly a dragon fly? although they would get water from a flower, not pollen.
