How to deal with seasonal allergies and hay fever?

Pollen is everywhere! I can't escape it, and neither can the millions of people who suffer from seasonal allergies like I do. I've always got a stuffy nose, and perpetually itchy/watery/red eyes during the Spring season.

For my fellow allergy sufferers out there, how do you deal with it?

Know of any effective allergy medicines? (Claritin has stopped working for me!)

How can I keep my eyes from getting so irritated?

Thanks in advance, :-)

Reply:You suffer from hay-fever like i do. It is a pain when your eyes get all itchy and nose runny. I put warm tea bags on my eyes when they get itchy. It stings at first but is great and works for me. The natural herbs in the tea bag seem to make the itchiness and swelling go down. I take loradine when it's spring. It sometimes works but using a medication that drys up the stuff in your nose works as well like sudafed. If the doctor has prescribed you medication tell them it isn't working and get them to change it. Your body might have become immune to claritin so a stronger or more effective medication would work better. Talk to your doctor about eye drops and nasal spray and tablets for your hay-fever.

hope that helps!
Reply:If you can handle Sudafed, it works the best, especially when taken with another medicine. Zyrtec just opened up to generic, but you still need a prescription. Benedryl is helpful for short term relief and you can take it with your daily medicine. There are eye drops especially made for allergies that can be prescribed and there are many different types in the medicine section of the grocery store.
Reply:The key thing is to be relaxed. I find the more I respond to the irritation, the worse it gets. What works for me is tranquilizers, not antihistamine medicines. As long as I'm relaxed, it gets no worse and eventually goes away. Anyway, that's what works for me.
Reply:Wish I could tolerate anything but Benadryl. Probably need to buy stock in one of the tissue producing companies, I go through about two boxes of them a day. Grin and bear it. As for eye irritation...I have little inspiration to offer.
Reply:go to your doctor and get a shot during the bad times, otherwise Alavert is good for 24 hours allergy relief, one tablet and no real side effects that I can ever tell
Reply:apart from anti histamines there is nothing else at the moment, though some personalized medicine is being tested it'll take some time...anti histamines are the main stay till then...
Reply:Claritin! Im not a spokesman for them but the nondrowsy stuff works great
Reply:how about nasonex it works pretty good 4 me
Reply:move to the desert
