What are reasons my central air conditioning in my home is not getting cold enough?

What type of things could I do to check it out myself. There is white pollen stuck around the outside unit; do I need to clean that off?

you should always keep the outside unit clean. just spray with water hose. I know from my air conditioner these past few days it wasnt getting cool in my house and it turned out i was low on freeon. I had it checked out and now i think i can store bodies in here it is so damn cold.
Reply:You should always keep your A/C unit clean but it shouldn't cost you an arm and a leg to do it.

Mean Green works just as well as the expensive stuff and is environmentally safe for your surrounding grass and plants.

Turn your unit off, spray everything down and wait about ten minutes. You won't need to see any foam to know it's working.

If you have a laundry sink, hook your garden hose to that and spray your unit off with hot water only.

You can also hook into the drain faucet on your water heater (That's a good way to get rid of any sediment in there too. Kill two birds with one stone.)

For your inside coils use a brush that's designed to clean the coils of your refrigerator. There is also a spray you can get that loosens the dirt from the coils. Then you just vacuum it away or use a medium pressure air hose.

Good luck.
Reply:You can go to an HVAC supply house and ask for coil bright, you wont need to be certified to buy this. It will cost about 40$ in the US. But it comes in a gallon jug and you can mix it to a 2-1 ratio. You will need to tell them you want a jug for the inside unit and also a different one for the outside coil. Ther inside coil should be cleaned to, you are constantly blowing air accross it and it gets bad to. So you take and mix the contents with water, again 2-1 ratio and spray the outside unit, it will foam and push out any dirt inside the coils spray off the coil with a water hose and repeat until the foam is white. Do the same process inside to, the coil inside is usally located above the furnace. Also you must change your filters at least once a month I do mine 2 times a month. Good luck.
Reply:Wash the outside unit with a hose . Check your furnace filter, if it's dirty, replace it. A dirty filter restricts the air flow. The coil inside the furnace may also be dirty or clogged. If none of these work, you are probably low on freon and need to have the unit recharged.
Reply:Keep the outside unit clean and make sure the fan isn't on
