How does a person suddenly become allergic to something they have eaten all their lives?

For most of my life I've had at most 2 allergies. (cats and pollen). Now it seems as though I am allergic to citrus fruits and peanuts. I have eaten and loved these foods all my life. What gives?

your body builds up antibodies to these foods and it can happen over night. It's sad but unfortunately it happens. You have to try cut these foods out or use some meds
Reply:It's true - allergies can develop during any stage of one's life, even adulthood. My husband had never suffered from hay fever until 2 years ago. My allergies to certain grass pollens were alleviated but replaced by allergies to tree pollen.
Reply:People can develop allergies at any point in their lives. I had dogs all my life and in my twenties, I developed allergies to them.
Reply:I found some good info here.
Reply:I developed allergic reactions to foods that I could eat nonstop most of my life. When I turned about 44 y.o., suddenly fruits, chocolate, certain vegetables, prepared mixes, prepared snacks, etc. really made me break out in hives or I would diarrhea/nausea from them. I know other people in their late 40's who have had similar reactions. I think it is the body changing with age, and now for some reason it cannot tolerate foods like it used to. I did see an allergist about it, he said it is not unusual to develop allergies later in life.
