My pet dog has an allergic rash. Are there any treatments to help cure the itching?

He gets the rash whenever he goes outside, so I'm thinking its grass allergies or pollen. It goes away completely in winter and is really bad in fall, and spring. He's a springer spannel.

My pet dog has an allergic rash. Are there any treatments to help cure the itching?
I have a Westie who had major allergies. I tried everything from vet prescribed medicines to changing her food to doing a clinical study for Atopica. I was at the point that I feared I was going to have to give her up because I couldn't do anything else for her and the medical bills were outrageous. I contacted a rescue organization and they asked me to try one more dog food. I was more than sceptical, but it was the answer! Within days there was a massive improvement. She has been on it now since January and no more itching or bare skin. Try it! Its worth it!!! The dog food is called Kumpi. Ask for Evy. She even sent me a free bag to try.
Reply:Talk to your vet about antihistamine and omega-3 fatty acid therapy. Try Benedryl and Loratadine and Chlorpheniramine and a few other antihistamines for a week or two each during the 'itchy season'. Find the one that works best and stick with it! Fatty acid supplements also help keep the skin calm and vibrant.

In a few cases where antihistamines are just not enough, we have some patients who just have to have a week of prednisone every so often to keep their skins on. Others who have combination allergies all year round are on cyclosporine therapy, to suppress immune response. These therapies work VERY well, but have dangers and side effects, so definitely go with conservative prevention first. Good luck!
Reply:You'll need to see a vet for medication. They will be teh only ones who have it. Dogs don't use the same allergy meds that humans do. so a vet is your best bet. Sorry that I can't help you further.
Reply:My dog has severe allergies. He has both food and airborne ones. He is 50 pounds +/- and he takes 2 Benadryl up to three times a day. It's the only thing that gets him through it.
Reply:Aww...I'm sorry to hear that

Hope this helps:

Reply:You should take him to a vet to see if he can be put on some kind of medication. But until then, if he gets the rash try give him childrens bedadryl. That's what we do for my dog.
Reply:Id recommend seeing the vet so he can give you something might be best for the dog.
Reply:Speak to a vet he may be able to prescribe some sort of cortisone treatment for the seasons he has problems, Id also try an oatmeal based shampoo, this should have a soothing affect. I Australia the vets also sell a product called 'Ban Itch".

Its a spray that has an antiseptic, anaesthetic and bitterent in it.

The antiseptic will keep it clean, the anaesthetic will take away the sting and the bitterent will deter him from scratching. I'm sure vets where you are will have something similar

Good Luck
