Am I the only person who suffers from ridiculously debilitating pollen allergies?

For the past week or so, I have had the worst allergies when I am outside.

If there is an ounce of pollen floating around, I seriously want to die.

My throat closes up... I cannot swallow or breath out of my mouth.

My nose begins to run like it is Niagara Falls. Today during my SAT, my nose began to run-- so hideously so, that I had to wipe my nose with my shirt... like 80 times. My shirt was HARD with dried-up nose stuff by the end of the test. I threw the shirt out.

My eyes are the worst out of all of my symptoms. They swell up really badly, and I always look like I am crying. In English class a few days ago, we were reading this 'sad' book, and I heard "Hey, is he crying?" directed me more than a few times. They also get very itchy, and my eyes are painfully red by the end of the day.

So... enough complaining. Do you know when pollen allergies go away? Will I ever grow out of it? Do you know of any medicine-ish stuff that I can use? Any suggestions?

Thanks, guys!

I have allergies so bad this season that I am itching from head to toe... it gets better at night (thank goodness) - but in the morning YIKES!

Good luck with that - see you Dr - you can get a lot of really good meds now to help if you want to take something for it! Even over the counter stuff works OK - but the persrciption meds tend to work better!
Reply:Lots of people have the same problem. Go to a doctor and get a prescription. I take Zyrtec and it helps me alot.
Reply:I used to have bad allergies like that too. The problem was, they seemed to get worse at night. I would wake up several times every hour ALL Night Long. I would be SO exhausted after a few weeks.

I hope you have good insurance. Allergy desensitation shots really work, especially for pollen allergies. You have to be patient, it may take 2 years or so to start working. I had a nine year series of shots, which stopped five years ago, and my allergies are hardly noticeable.

Unfortunately, if you do nothing, your allergies will not go away.
Reply:I'm getting my butt kicked by allergies this year too. I actually heard the other day that this is the worst allergy season in a decade.
Reply:I know your pain, I've experienced all your symptoms in the past. I used to get pneumonia, asthma attacks, and bronchitis about once a year because of my pollen allergies. Aside from all pollen, I was allergic to cockroaches, dogs, cats, dust, termites, and some tree in Australia that I had never even been exposed to!

I have some good news! You should talk to your doctor. They have allergy shots, which are well worth the time! For the first month, you go in maybe 2 times a week. Each time you go in, they give you a shot in each arm and then you have to wait around the clinic for about 30 minutes to make sure you don't have a negative reaction. After that initial month, you only have to go in about once a week and then it decreases to once a month. I did it for 6 months and I am completely allergy free now. It was worth the time, and I recommend you look into it.
Reply:1. stay indoors. 2.depend on the area you live, like living by a open field that has pollens. I know, I use to get it bad, before they decide to build a senior home on the lot. 3. try benadryl it works, but it put you to sleep sorry.
Reply:First of all...if you are really this bad see an allergy specialist! In the meantime try a couple of things...keep kleenex in your pocket to use instead of your shirt and take an over the counter med such as Chlortrimaton or Sudafed...I have suffered from major allergies for years and take sudafed almost year round, for me it works almost as good as the RX's do. Allergy shots work for some people and not for others and to me were a nuisance with no real benefit noted. You can buy over the counter eye allergy meds also...I use one daily...also prescription Patanol eyedrops work fantastic and you can wear contacts shortly after using the eyedrops. Whether you get any relief or not during the year depends on what you are allergic to and if that allergen is around you....
