What will happen if I pollenate an Amarylis?

Or any other flower on a plant that does not produce fruit.

I have 4 flowers, each one has several small yellow pollen sacks, and one large solid white female portion. I took the pollen out of each flower and put it in a different flower.

What will happen, will the flowers drop off and some form of seed pod form? If nothing happens, what is the purpose of these plants having pollen?

They may or may not accept the pollen. If they do, a swollen bulb will form at the neck of the fertilized flower.

Sometimes pollen does not take; and this happens fairly often. It does depend upon when the pollen was introduced, The flower could have already self-pollinated when you introduced the pollen; which would result in its not being taken.
Reply:Yes, a seed pod will form. Not all amaryllis will accept their own pollen, so if nothing happens that is probably why. Then you can plant then seeds which will eventually form another bulb.
Reply:As far as i know they would fall of as seeds or something...seeds have to form its the way it mates or it may do it a sexual i dont know
