Is it possible to have an allergic reaction to a tattoo?

I'm planning on getting a tattoo but I have a lot of allergies, mostly food and pollen related, that tend to affect my skin. Is it possible that I could have an allergic reaction to tattoo ink?

Is it possible to have an allergic reaction to a tattoo?
only one way of finding out , get a small one
Reply:Yes you can have a reaction to the ink.

My brother's friend got a tattoo on his arm and he had a really bad reaction to the red ink in it.

Talk with the tattoo artist about the ink.
Reply:Yes you can. Anything you put on or in your body puts you at risk for an alergy. For example Im alergic to liquor... I couldent tell you why but I am. I also have skin alergies, but I do have tattoos and I was fine. If you are really concerned consult your dermitoligist if you will be alergic to the ink. They are going to tell you that tattoos are bad for your skin anyway, but they may be able to help you make the right decision.
Reply:You can have a serious reaction to some of the colored Indian inks used in tattooing.

To be on the safe side, get an all black tribal tattoo...they heal faster and there are far less risks if you have lots of allergies.
Reply:yea ....its possible to be allergic to anything....ask your doctor to have u tested on the different types of tattoo ink
Reply:yes, people can be allergic to certain colors but you wont know until you get it done. i was just at the docs office the other day and a girl came in who had an allergic reaction to the color red--they gave her a cortizone shot and some meds. she was ok after a week or so.

good luck
Reply:i guess because you would be inserting stuff in ur body and it might not like it. go to a doctor or something
Reply:Absolutely.

If you have a lot of allergies I would speak with you allergy doctor.
Reply:I suppose it is possible, you might want to look into what is exactly in the ink and then see if there is anything in it that would cause a reaction in you personally. BE on the Safe side.
Reply:i have had tat's for yrs and every once in awhile my tat's not all of the will get puffy and Itch a doc told me sweat glands were damaged when i got the tat and its just our bodies way of trying to reject it, and yes you could be allergic to the ink , you didn't go into detail what the problem was your experiencing though so kind of hard to answer, if its real bad go to a doc's office and find out. nothing to play with it could cause blood infection and turn gangrene.
Reply:It is Very Possible to have an allergic reaction to a tattoo! If you're allergic to a lot of things I wouldn't even think about getting a tattoo...my opinion you have your own!!
Reply:It is rare, but possible, to have an allergic reaction to tattoo ink. Each color is made from different ingredients, and people tend to have the most reactions to red and yellow inks. Some tattoo artists will do a patch test of the ink on you. But the nature of allergies is that they develop over time with exposure. You may not get a reaction to your first tattoo, but future tattoos may cause allergic reactions at each tattoo site. Your best bet is to stay away from red and yellow inks, do a patch test, and stop after one tattoo. Good luck!
Reply:Possible but not probable.

Red ink is the only one you

really have to worry about.

Talk it over with your artist.

Knowledge is your friend.

Think Before Yo Ink.....
Reply:It's a possibility. R u allergic to the ink in pens? I know the substances are somewhat alike. Some tattoo artists can do a test to see if you are or not. I'm allergic to almost everything as well and I wasn't allergic to tattoos.
Reply:It's very possible. Everyone reacts differently to the ink and to the metal of the needle. Also, a tattoo is a scar, so when you first get it its essentially an open wound. Just take very good care of it and follow the directions your tattoo artist gives you. If you have questions call the artist or call your doctor and I'm sure they would be happy to give you answers. The artist will want your tattoo to look good because that reflects well on them and being that tattooing is their art, they want the tattoo they give you to be perfect.
Reply:It is very possible since many dyes are taken from natural products including iodine from shellfish. Ask tattoo artist before you get the tattoo to be on the safe side.
Reply:yes you can have an allergic reaction to the ink that they use.
