Lily pollen on carpet- please help!?

My very beautiful but very mishevious two year old daughter has managed to drop pollen from my Lilys onto my carpet. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can remove it?

It is a new carpet and it is slightly rubbed in...any help will be gratefully received.

Lily pollen on carpet- please help!?
Oooohhhhh. Lily pollen is dreadful to remove.

Start by using sellotape or a lint roller and dabbing it on. This will catch any loose pollen that hasn't been rubbed in. Then get a good carpet foam cleaner like 1001. Just use the foam because if it's too wet and you rub it you will spread the stain. The foam crystalises and when it's dry you can hoover it.

Hope it works for you. Good Luck. x
Reply:try selotape sticky side down DONT rub/ try at least several times before anything els good luck the little tinker eric john
Reply:Rub the area with styrofoam from packaging - the styrofoam makes the pollen leap to it, as it's electrically charged.
Reply:USUALLY THIS CLEANER CALLED RESOVE WORKS. IF ITS A TOUGH STAIN YOULL HAVE TO LET IT SET A MINUTE. BUT, I HAVE FOUND IT TO BE VERY EFFECTIVE.
Reply:I once had Lily Pollen on the carpet; very enjoyable!
Reply:Lily pollen is a pain to get rid of!

Use sellotape, make sure it doesn't get rubbed in.

Then use a quality carpet cleaner

Sorry not much help but....

To stop this happening again cut the stamens off. it doesn't make the flowers look any less beautiful but solves the problem ever happening again

Has anybody used Bioallers or Boiron's Homeopathic medicine for Pollen Allergy? Did it work for you?

Though I have not used the Medicine, but being a Homeopathic Practitioner I can safely say that it should work, because I have never know Homeopathic Medicines too fail or not make an effect. And Boiron is a World Renowned Firm. I have found their remedies totally effective in all cases. In my experience single remedies work better, the ones which are prescribed according to the patients symptoms rather then combination remedies. You can post your symptoms here or consult a Homeopathic Physician for an appropriate prescription for best results.

Hope this helps.

Take Care and God Bless !

What would prevent the pollen from one plant species from pollinating flowers of another species?

?????

What would prevent the pollen from one plant species from pollinating flowers of another species?
Just as in humans, plants have their own form of DNA, the building blocks of life. Species with incompatible DNA cannot reproduce with each other. This is why dogs cannot mate with cats, etc. However there are some instances where cross-pollination IS possible. This is how some botanists can create hybrid plant species.
Reply:The same thing that prevents sperms and eggs from different animal species from combining. Although hybrids do form more commonly in the plant world (species aren't as discrete as in animals), most plants are not capable of combining.
Reply:idk
Reply:Nothing. It happens more than you think. Think of flower hybrids. You can find them if you look.
Reply:There are cases of cross pollination between two species of plants, thats when you see the weird looking fruit, so it isn't entirely impossible. But I suppose things like plant structure matter, or maybe the pollen just isn't able to fertilize the ovule of the plant....sort of why most animal species cannot create progeny

Name the stage of plant that is enclosed within pollen?

It is the Gametophyte stage.

In land plants the gametophyte is very small (as in ferns and their relatives) or even reduced as in flowering plants (angiosperms).

where the female gametophyte (ovule) is known as a megagametophyte and the

male gametophyte (pollen) is called a microgametophyte.

It is haploid and has haploid cells / nuclei in side .

It is Haploid because pollen grains ( Micro-spores ) are produced through the reduction division ( Meiosis ) of Diploid Pollen Mother Cells or Micro-spore mother cells .

Name the stage of plant that is enclosed within pollen?
microgametogenesis pollination.

Should i run track with my bad allergies to pollen and dusts?

im wondering because mine are severe and its during the springtime

Should i run track with my bad allergies to pollen and dusts?
yeah, you should, i have bad allergies the same time and i still run track.
Reply:Take Nasonex. It is the best nasal spray in the world and when you take it you can't feel any allergies anymore, indoors or out. Ask your doctor and they can prescribe it for you, I've never found any medicine to work better.

  • When the yellow pollen is going to end?

I live in Atlanta and I'm sick of this yellow mess. I want to powerwash the windows and the deck of my house... It looks terrible. Does anyone know when starts to get better?

    Thanks!

When the yellow pollen is going to end?
Few plants put out pollen for much more than 2 weeks. When a species is widespread so that some are growing at much higher or more northerly locations, it can be a month.

Now I never encountered a lot of pollen in Alberta. Do you live in a forest area? or perhaps somewhere that grows canola or mustard?
Reply:You have some rain comming your way. That will help. But you must wait until the Pine and Oak Trees have budded out. They are the cause of the Yellow Pollen.

We are experiencing the very same dilemna here in N.W. Arkansas and have about another week to 10 days to go.
Reply:It will disappear after the first frost.

Is your car covered with pollen?

Mine is. In fact, if I leave the window to my house open for five minutes, my entire desk is covered with yellow dust. It makes me sneeze, too. I do not even have allergies. I can even see it building up on the driveway, I'm afraid to eat outside for fear of pollen poisoning. Please, let me know that I'm not alone. I'm almost going crazy. HELP!

BTW, I live in northeast Alabama.

Is your car covered with pollen?
Yes, I think it's pretty much all over the country. I'm in TX and mine was completely covered. I don't have bad allergies, thank goodness. It's really irritating, yes. But it's just part of Spring.

    It'll be over soon.

And then we'll be complaining about the heat of the summer ...
Reply:Sorry folks! We poor saps up here north of the Carolinas are still freezing! BRRRRRRR! Report It
Reply:people sell pollen as a protein and a food suppliment, most are good for you, except rag weed or golden rod
Reply:Hahaha, yes. I was just walking home from class (live in an apt. on UTK campus) and I passed a line of cars and they were all covered in pollen. You couldn't even tell what color the cars were! I'd say they probably hadn't been there that long either. It's crazy how much is out there floating around.
Reply:Yes, mine is covered. I don't even want to was my car anymore. I live in southeast Alabama, so no you are not alone.
Reply:I live in northern VA...not yet, but it is coming...everything just started to bloom and I feel the allergies coming on...Last year my car was coated in the stuff...thick yellow mess!
Reply:I live in north Texas and my red car looks orange it has so much pollen on it. Our walnut tree also weeps a sticky sap so the pollen stick like it is glued on. I don't know about pollen poisoning, but it could cause you to have allergies due to over exposure.
Reply:I live in FL, and I don't have a car, but my mom's and my aunt's are both covered in a thick dust. It's gross. The difference is, I'm allergic :(
Reply:i live in KY now and theres a bit, but i used to live right outside atlanta and there would be up to an eight of an inch on our cars it was crazy
Reply:Probably, not the best answer... I'm just shocked at the question, are you serious? I live in Alaska, sooooo it is deffinetly not a problem here. My suggestion would just be dust with something that keeps it on the rag, rather than just lifting it into the air again. Good luck!
Reply:Dude, Cut the tree down put some other type of tree instead.

    Use palm trees.
Reply:You aren't the only one. I'm near Atlanta, and the pollen lately has been insane. There's no point in washing cars because they will get covered by the next day. My advice: get yellow car.

Is there tree pollen and could I be allergic to it?

Yes Tree's do have pollen. I am very allergic to it. Tree pollen is a very common cause of allergies.

Is there tree pollen and could I be allergic to it?
Every tree has it's own pollen and there are several that cause problems to allergy sufferers. The only way to know for sure is to see your doctor, who will arrange for allergy testing.

In the meantime, do a search on seasonal allergies to get an idea of the different trees that are particularly bothersome.
Reply:Definitely!!! My son is allergic to all tree pollen in the spring. His eyes would get red, burning and itchy. His throat would hurt and he sniffled enough to drive me crazy. He's been taking allergy shots before spring starts and he's doing 110% better. On really high pollen days he might have to take an allergy pill, but usually he's OK. Get your doc to refer you to an allergist. If that's what it is, you might be able to get some relief before next spring comes around.
Reply:pollen season is here, and doctors are saying this is one of the worst seasons they have ever seen, more people are having allergies these days try clariton. a few signs of allergies are watery or itchy eyes, coughing, stuffy, sinus drainage, sneezing and horseness.

What is bee pollen and how is it's food evaluation?

Bee pollen is kind of a misnomer. Bees don't make pollen. Bee pollen is just pollen collected by the bees from their visits to the flowering blossoms. Bees use pollen as a protein source for feeding to their developing larva.

Because beekeepers don't control what flowers that the bees are visiting, bee pollen can vary in its content from hive to hive and from season to season.

One website lists the nutritional information on bee pollen as:

15-25% Amino Acids, Up to 40% Carbohydrates, 5% Fatty Oils, Up to 35% protein

    Contains Vitamins like: A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 B12, C, D, E, Folic Acid %26amp; Ruitn

Contains Minerals like: Calcium, Copper, Iron, Phosphorous, Potassium

    28 Micronutrients

    14 beneficial fatty acids

I was exposed to molds and got really, really sick with asthma from it. The air cleaners allowed my lungs to breathe easier, and my skin cleared up as well. Is there any natural alternative to solve the allergic reaction to pollen?

You can try these herbal remedies.

Ginkgo Biloba 40 mm three times a day. It reduces the amount of histimine that the body produces and thus reduces the potential for having an allergic attack.

Garlic 500 mm a day It reduces swelling and inhibits allergen induced asthma reactions to pollen.

Reishi, a medicinal mushroom. It inhibits inflamation caused by histimine, which causes your allergy reaction. 420 mm a day

Rosemary 10 drops of this essential oil in your bath will help open up your breathing passages. Or take 1/4 cup fresh rosemary needles in 4 cups hot water for 10 minutes, strain off the needles and drink the tea. No more than 3 cups of this tea a day.

Will Similasan eye drops actually get rid of conjunctivitis caused by an allergin? (dust, pollen etc.).?

I have conjunctivitis, self diagnosed. Ive got watery eyes, red, swollen with a little burn at times. My question is do I absolutely have to go to the doctor or can I use these eye drops to heal this affliction? Is there something else I can use as well? I know I should go to the doc but I dont really have the means to right now...

I'm not familiar with Similasan, but you need an antibiotic. Polysporin is usually given for that.

Polysporin drops if it is the upper lid affected, or in ointment form if it is the bottom lid , is a quick , over the counter anti biotic that works very well.

How are pollen and ova different to each other cells in a plant?

Pollen is not a cell it is actually the gametophyte of the plant. It contains 3 nuclei : 2 sperm nuclei and 1 tube nucleus. The pollen has to find its way into the ovary of the pistil. The tube nucleus will form a pollen tube through the pistil into the ovule. Once the connection is made the 2 sperm nuclei will enter and fertilize the egg and endosperm. The egg is the ova and is formed inside the ovule which is inside the ovary (fruit).

How are pollen and ova different to each other cells in a plant?
    pollen=sperm=male

    ova=egg=female
Reply:Fertilization in humans happens when sperm (male) and egg (female) meet. In plants, the sperm is the pollen and the ova is the egg.
Reply:Pollen grains are considered to be the first cells of male gametophyte. These pollen grains are the microspores which are formed by the meiosis of the pollen mother cell. These pollen grains contain two male gametes. One gamete fertilizes the egg cell and the other gamete fertilizes the secondary nucleus to form the endosperms (generally in angiosperms)

Ova are the egg cells which on fusing with the male gamete form the zygote.
Reply:Pollen contains the male gamete which is the sperm whereas ovum(plural is ova) is the female gamete. Both sperm and ovum contain half the number of chromosomes that is they are haploid. Other cells of the plant such as photosynthetic cells and epidermal cells are diploid that is they have complete set of chromosomes.

Reply:I don't know what does this process call, but in pollen grains from the anther they form as pollen sacs that becomes cell then to large nuclei or Microspore mother cell and it is divided into 2 which calls as the 1st Meiotic Division, and these 2 is going to be divided into 4 which called as the 4-celled tetrad or microspores and now it becomes pollen grain. Can pollen and allergies give you a larger tonsil?

Yes, allergies can be an aggrivating factor in tonsil problems. Talk to your doctor or other medical professional about ways to minamize these effects and to determine if there are any other problems that may need addttional attention.

Can pollen and allergies give you a larger tonsil?
    HI WE MEET AGAIN

YEP ANY ALLERGIES CAN CAUSE IT

ALLERGIES TO POLLEN CAN CAUSE INFLAMATION TO THE SOFT TISSUES OF THE TONSIL AND ADNOIDS AND FREQUENTLY THESE WERE REMOVED WHEN I WAS A CHILD. APPARENTLY MEDICINES HAVE IMPROVED IN THAT I DO NOT HEAR OF THEM BEING REMOVED SO MUCH ANYMORE! BUT I AM 60 AND THEY WERE REMOVED WHEN I WAS AROUND 11 OR SO ... SO THAT WAS YEARS AGO!

I SURELY HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THEM AFTER THEIR REMOVAL!! HA!

ANYWAY DID NOT MISS THEM EXCEPT THAT THE ADNOIDS WHICH ARE KINDA LIKE LITTLE TONSILS OF THE NOSE , HELP WITH THINGS LIKE SWIMMING UNDER WATER, KEEPING THE WATER OUT! SO MY NOSE HAD TO TRAIN ITS SELF , AND IT DID, TO SEAL UP FROM WATER! DID NOT HAVE SORE THROATS AFTERWARDS, I DID TAKE TIME TO HEAL BUT I DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE TONSIL DOES THAT IS GOOD FOR US ! DO NOT MISS IT, AS FAR AS I KNOW THEY ONLY KEEP DOCTORS AND SURGEONS AND DRUG COMPANIES IN BUSINESS!

    THEY CAN GO!

I KNOW THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE INSURANCE! THE TONSIL IS NOTHING BUT A LIABILITY FOR LIFE IF THERE IS A CLINIC AND A SURGEON THAT YOU COULD FIND THAT WOULD REMOVE THEM IT WOULD BE THE BEST THING FOR YOU PERIOD FOR LIFE! NO MORE NEED FOR MEDICINE FOR THEM! THEY WOULD BE GONE! LIKEWISE THE ADNOIDS ARE IN THE SAME BOAT THEY COLLECT GERMS JUST LIKE THE ADNOIDS, FIND A CLINIC SOMEWHERE AND SEE WHAT THEY COULD WORK OUT.

GOOD LUCK HAVE YOU TRYED FINDING WORK SOMEWHERE THAT GAVE INSURANCE AS A PART OF EMLOYMENT OR DO YOU OWN YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

ANYWAY HAVE A GOOD DAY AND GOOD LUCK

When pollen season hits my lips start to itch...?

What causes it and what's going on in there? I've yet to meet anyone else that has described the same.

When pollen season hits my lips start to itch...?
Yeah hmm thats quite odd. I have very very aggressive and heavy allergies, and have never had lip itches. I would suggest going to the doctor and having an allergy test done, so you can find out what it is you're allergic too. Some medication you can buy at the store might not be right to help you with something specific. It might be an element within your house too, unless this is osmething you experience outside then it might be a little more broad. But yes, get a test done and see what it is you're allergic too, your doctor will tell you what the reaction is as well.

What is the name of the process when a pollen tube is formed down to a female egg in a flower?

The process is germination(yes the word germination is also used when a seed sprouts in the soil).

In a pollen grain, there were two cells, the generative cell and the tube cell. When the pollen grain lands on the pistil of a compatible flower, the generative cell undergoes mitosis to form two sperm cells while the tube cell germinates and forms the pollen tube down to the female egg.

What is the name of the process when a pollen tube is formed down to a female egg in a flower?
    pollination
Reply:hehe, not a pistil- that's the actual part of the plant. I am not sure I have ever come across that term other than referring to it as part of the fertilization process. I suppose that since we would possibly call sexual intercourse "part of the process" this still counts, just slightly removed. This is similar in that the plants male (pollen grain) and female (stigma) bits get together and the actual pollen tube forming part is just how the gametes come together...

I hope that was somewhat helpful

  • What are pollen formation, pollination, fertilization, seed formation, and see dispersal?

A pollen grain is an immature male gametophyte.

It is produced within the sporangium of the anthers.

The diploid microspore mother cell will undergo meiosis and form 4 haploid microspores.

The microspores nuclei will undergo mitosis and produce a tube nucleus and a generative nucleus.

A thick wall forms around the spore in a specific pattern, producing the pollen grain or immature male gametophyte.

Ovule Development: The ovule is an immature seed. It is formed within the ovary and contains the female gametophyte. The female gametophyte is the embryo sac and forms in the following way.

The megaspore mother cell undergoes meiosis to form 4 haploid (N) megaspores.

One of the 4 will continue to develop, while the other 3 dissolve.

The remaining megaspore grows and its nucleus will undergo 3 mitotic divisions, forming 1 large cell with 8 haploid nuclei.

This will develop into the embryo sac. This sac contains a specific arrangement of these nuclei in the following order: The egg cell is located near the micropyle surrounded by 2 other cells called synergids. At the opposite end 3 antipodal cells are found. In the center of the sac will be found 2 polar nuclei.

Pollination: Pollination is the placement of the pollen on the stigma of the carpal. This pollen transfer can be accomplished by wind, insects, built in mechanical discharge, and man. Once the pollen lands on the stigma, a series of chemical reactions takes place allowing the pollen grain to begin producing a structure called the pollen tube. As this is happening, the generative nucleus will divide and produce 2 sperm nuclei. This pollen grain with the pollen tube and 3 nuclei is considered the mature gametophyte. The pollen tube will work its way through the style of the carpal and touch the micropyle of the ovule. Here the sperm nuclei will enter the embryo sac and fertilize the egg and the two polar nuclei; hence the term double fertilization. The fertilized egg (2N) will develop into the immature seed plant, while the (3N) central cell will develop into the endosperm or food storage area of the seed.

The seed is protected by the seed coat or testa.

The micropyle is the only opening into the seed. It is through here that the water will enter to start germination.

The seed contains stored food in the form of seed leaves (cotyledons). Some seeds contain one ( monocots) while other contain 2 ( dicots).

The embryo plant contains several areas : the area above the attachment of the cotyledons is the epicotyl. This will develop into the shoots and leaves of the developing plant. The area below the attachment is called the hypocotyl. This will develop into the roots of the plant.

Development of Fruit: The fruit of a flower develops from the ovary. They protect the seeds and allow for their dispersal. Fruits may be classified in many ways. Below find one of such classification schemes.

Simple Fruits: These fruits develop from a single ovary. Peach, cherry, soybean.

Aggregate Fruits: These fruits develop from a single flower with many carpals. Strawberry.

Multiple Fruits: Fruit develops from a group of tightly clustered flowers. Pineapple.

What are pollen formation, pollination, fertilization, seed formation, and see dispersal?
    pure anoying alergies. thats what.

Is money made from bee pollen, bee "waste" or just cotton and linen?

Your Q is a little unclear.

Paper money in the U.S. is made of cotton fibers,

    very tough/durable

and a few other small trace fibers that contribute to the color specks.

I'm not sure if it contains any waxes, bee or other.

e.g. water proofing, maintains fresh smooth look.

Bee pollen was a health kick in the early 1980's.

And the slogan: "Stay healthy, eat your honey"

Bee honey is an ag. product that is worth significant money,

if the farmer sells direct to the public can make good money.

To bee waste or not to bee waste.

    That's the question.

If given the choice, I'd rather not be waste.

its just made out of paper i think which is wood

Do home air cleaners work for air pollution (such as car emmisions) as well as dander/pollen/allergens?

I've already read that many popular air purifiers actually emitt a lot of ozone, but for the ones that do not, do they work against city air pollution that comes from industrial work or is it just against organic allergens?

Do home air cleaners work for air pollution (such as car emmisions) as well as dander/pollen/allergens?
I believe it depends on what brand and which filter you buy. Each one uses a different method of filtration and some have combinations of several methods in the same purifier. Here are three different ones I found (the links are below).

The Sharper Image Hybrid GP Germicidal Air Purifier reduces bacteria, mold spores and viruses in the air, and converts ozone to oxygen.

The Friedrich C-90A Electronic Air Cleaner employs three different levels of allergen and irritant removal and claims to remove tobacco smoke, pollen, and dust.

The AllerAir Air Purifiers help clean the air of particles, gases, odors, smoke, mold, and various pollutants. It claims to be ideal for someone who "wants features commonly ordered for use in hostile or toxic air environments such as medical facilities or government military buildings in order to reduce potent airborne contaminants."

  • Have you ever seen a wildflower with shiny silver pollen things?

In Riverside Co. CA, I saw some flowers growing on a hill. They had shiny silver pollen things, like aluminum foil. The flowers were small. I don't remember what color the flower was or what the plant or leaf looked like, I just remember the silver pollen things. The plant was about 3 to 6 inches tall. I have looked in the "Rare and Endangered" plant lists on every web site I could find. I went back every spring but I haven't seen them since. People drive their trucks up that hill to show off. They killed the wildflower patch.

Is bee pollen as healthy and full of nutrients as they say on the internet?

Pollen contains vitamines, proteins. But it also contains mould spores ( like Aspergillus, producer of aflatoxine and ochratoxine). So, I don't reccomend it.

The only way to keep anything from getting into your pool would be enclose it. But then you'd probably still get stuff in the pool from your feet the wind etc etc; I think you are better off accepting that part of having a pool is cleaning nature out of it

I have heard that dogs can be given Benadryl at 1mg to every pound body weight. Has anyone tried this? I dont want to cause him any harm -vet isnt open except for emergencies til mon and poor little fella is itching.

Its an educated guess that my dog has got an allergy to the seasonal high pollen levels.?
Hi.. You are obviously not sure about giving your dog human medicines so please....Don't! Your poor dog has obviously been suffering for some time so to wait until Monday will not be too bad. The risk attached to giving 'people medicine' is very high and you shouldn't really do it. Please let your Vet advise you. I am sure that they could advise you over the telephone if you were that worried so that wouldn't involve expense if that is the problem. The vet will have to see the dog eventually to ascertain what he is allergic to. Fleas are rife at this time of year. Have you treated for infestation?

    Good Luck to you Both

The only thing you can do is have your dog get an allergy test, it can be quite expensive and certainly is not full proof. It may very well be seasonal allergies but it also could be food allergies or even the laundry detergent you use on your clothese.

One medication that has proven successful for my deceased dog was using a steroid such as prednisone along with an antibiotic called Clavamox.

Unfortunately to much of a steroid in a dogs system may create problems. But if used sparingly (1 - 3 times per year) your pup will get relief with no other side effects. Hope this helps.
Reply:My dog has allergies too, I give him anti-histamines prescribed by the vet. It's quite dodgy to give him medication without first finding out what the allergy is. I wouldn't give him Benadryl until you have sought professional advice.
Reply:Unlikely. If he's itching, he has got flea or mite infestation. See a vet.
Reply:My vet has said I can use Benedry for my dogs. they are about 20 lbs each, and my vet said I can give them up to 1 baby Benedry a day. My female has seasonal allergies to pollen. In the spring and fall she scratches and her eyes tear. The Benedryl helps. But I do NOT use it everyday. Benedryl can be a temporary help until you can get a hold of your vet. They may keep your dog on it, or give him something else designed for dogs. Good luck

In seed plants, which part of a pollen grain has a function most like that of the seed coat?

    a. sporangium

    b. sporopollenin

    c. sporophyll

    d. male gametophyte

    e. stigma

In seed plants, which part of a pollen grain has a function most like that of the seed coat?
    b. sporopollenin ==IS THE CORRECT ANSWER= For reasons read below ==

Sporopollenin is a major component of the tough outer (exine) walls of spores and pollen grains.

It is chemically very stable and is usually well preserved in soils and sediments.

The exine layer is often intricately sculptured in species-specific patterns (see image at right), allowing material recovered from (for example) lake sediments to provide useful information about plant and fungal populations in the past.

The chemical composition of sporopollenin is not exactly known, due to its unusual chemical stability and resistance to degradation by enzymes and strong chemical reagents. Analyses have revealed a mixture of biopolymers, containing mainly long chain fatty acids, phenylpropanoids, phenolics and traces of carotenoids.

Tracer experiments have shown that phenylalanine is a major precursor, but other carbon sources also contribute.

It is likely that sporopollenin derives from several precursors that are chemically cross-linked to form a rigid structure.

Electron microscopy shows that the tapetal cells that surround the developing pollen grain in the anther have a highly active secretory system containing lipophilic globules.

These globules are believed to contain sporopollenin precursors.

Chemical inhibitors of pollen development and many male sterile mutants have effects on the secretion of these globules by the tapetal cells.

My son has allergies to dust, dander, pollen. Can anyone tell me if air purifiers work, and if so whats best?

Air purifier helps reduce the symptoms but will not get rid of the problem.

I suggest IQAir HealthPro (around $700). It's one of the best air purifer.

A cheaper solution is Alen A350 ($400). An Austin air purifier is also a good solution.

Avoid ionic air purifiers because they are hazardous. And remember to ask about the replcacement filter costs since cheaper air purifiers are mostly expensive in the long run.

My son has allergies to dust, dander, pollen. Can anyone tell me if air purifiers work, and if so whats best?
Allergies are difficult. The kids are always sniffling etc. I would definately check with your doctor first to see if there is any medication that can be given to your son before you rack up your electric bill. The doctor may even prescribe allergy shots which are definately worth it in the long run. Air purifiers are ok, except they really don't get rid of the stuff that is causing the problem. They get rid of the most prominent molocules of air that are toxic, or have dirt in them. They also really do rack up your energy bill, sort of like running an AC. IF you have central heat/air, I would suggest buying a filter that is hypo allergenic. It really helps. Also, vacuum once every day, and dust twice a week. It will also tune down the sneezing volume in the house. If you have any pets such as a cat, rabbit, dog, or ferrit I would remove them from the house. If the child dosen't want to get rid of the pets then put him on meds.

Since I have moved here which has been about 10months I have been exhausted and wasn't sure if it could be something in the air (allergies, pollen, mold cedar trees)

I live in Austin,TX and the mold and cedar pollen are high does anyone know if it can make you tired .?
When your body reacts to allergens it produces it's own antihistamines which cause your mucous membranes to swell and excrete mucous so no more of the allergen can enter, itchy eyes, and most often, fatigue. Just like if you were to take diphenhydramine(Benadryl), you are going to get sleepy. Your body's metabolism wants to slow down so less of the allergens get into your system. Zyrtec is awesome, and now over the counter. Be sure to ask your doctor, and or the pharmacist first, in case any other meds you may be taking might interact negatively, or you have any other pre-existing conditions where you can't take antihistamines. Remember that as far as the pollen count goes, it's highest in the morning and late afternoon/evening. Close your windows, car ones included, use recirculating in your car, and try to stay indoors during those hours. Oh yeah, the generic for Zyrtec is cetirizine, and works just as well.
Reply:It can. If you have any other symtomes then try to take some benadrill. It's just a symtome of a small allergic reaction.

Why can't genetic engineers make poppy pollen so that no more opium is made, when they're able to change other

characteristics of other crop plants? Then they could just spread this genetically altered pollen in Pakistan and Afghanistan and that'd be the end of terrorists' funding via the opium trade??

Why can't genetic engineers make poppy pollen so that no more opium is made, when they're able to change other
Assume that they can. Then how do you ensure that the genetically engineered pollen is the one that fetilize the existing flowers? Poppies are fetilized by bees, so the pollen of one flower is the one getting on the back of a bee that will get brushed into another flower. Airdropping pollen would do nothing unless you put so much that it has the concentration that the natural pollen has on the flower's stamen.

The plants that are genetically engineered are done in a lab, in a closely isolated area. And it is only after the plant is ready that seeds are released. It is not done with pollen, it is done with seeds. And evidently, those interested in the new plant get those seeds deliberately.
Reply:Well I think it would have to be America or other countries that have the knowhow to do that. Can you imagine what would happen if we started flying over those countries, dropping stuff from planes? Theoretically , a great idea, just not practical in my opinion.

When pollen meets the egg cells of a plant what does it produce?

"When pollen meets the egg cells of a plant," seeds are produced.

After the pollen lands on the stigma of the plant, pollen tubes start to grow. These pollen tubes grow down the style of the plant until they reach the ovary. The "male gamete from the pollen tube joins the egg from the ovary," and a seed is formed.

  • hot makeup
  • What is the purpose of the pollen tube that forms after pollination?

Pollination is the placement of the pollen on the stigma of the carpal.

What is the purpose of the pollen tube that forms after pollination?
formation of a channel for the pollen to travel through the plant tissues to the egg. otherwise, they would just be 2 ships sitting around in the night.

Can severe allergies (pollen) and congestion cause fatigue?

I am so tired lated. More than usual. And It seems to correspond to spring and all the pollen, hayfever allergies and resulting congestion. I do take benadryl from time to time when I just can't take the itchy throat, eyes and runny nose no longer. But I just feel drained now that spring has hit. Could this be related to the allergies? Thanks!

Can severe allergies (pollen) and congestion cause fatigue?
Your body is reacting to an allergen, you will be fatigue, just as if it was fighting any other foreign antigen in your body. Rest, drink lots of water and take antihistamines, it will help you. Decongestion can help w/ your congestion as well. Good luck
Reply:yes, absolutely!! i suffer from severe allergies and it always drains me. it can also affect your sleep whether you realize or not and that can cause fatigue. i'm not a doctor or a nurse, but this is what my doctor told me!!
Reply:Absolutely. It is no wonder it is called "spring fever." Depending on what part of the country you live, allergies are rampant right now.

I use "Simply Saline" to ease mine and take a Benadryl at night. You may do well with some other types of treatment that can be obtained from your physician. Clartin also works well. You can buy this in generic form/(ask your pharmacist).
Reply:Yes, any time your body is fighting allergies or an infection it is using extra energy so you will feel more fatigue than usual.
Reply:Yes, as your immune system's resources are expended and your body becomes weaker. Also, if your allergy produces respiratory-cardiovasculatory complications you may be having less ability to absorb oxygen

What state has the lowest pollen count year round? Am currently in TX & allergies are so bad I may move?

I don't know anything about this myself but I found this:

    http://www.lungusa.org/site/pp.asp?c=dvL...

    Hope it helps!

What state has the lowest pollen count year round? Am currently in TX %26amp; allergies are so bad I may move?
when I lived in Northern California right on the Coast in Ferndale I never had a problem. I guess because the ocean blew all the pollen inland, Usualy a terrible hayfever person
Reply:I assumed that Nevada would have a low all-around allergen count, but boy was I wrong. Vegas is ranked #16 out of 100 in the top 100 worst cities for allergies in the US.

In all actuality, moving from one place to another is not an effective solution for allergies, because you'll develop allergies to the prevalent allergens wherever you go. In Oklahoma, it was mold from the constant humidity, then I come to Nevada and it's the dust. Any place with grass, trees, or weeds is going to have pollen, which is usually lowest in the winter and worst in the spring, summer, or fall depending on the type.

The best way to decrease allergies is to take allergy medications like antihistamines, decongestants and others. You could also try allergy shots, acupuncture, or homeopathic remedies. Having a food allergy test done can pinpoint your food sensitivities/allergies, and by decreasing your intake of these allergens, you'll lessen your overall symptoms of allergy. It's like a bucket that gets fuller with each exposure: with just pollen, you may be okay. Add animal dander and you'll start to sneeze. Add a food allergen and you'll be in the throes of a full-blown allergy attack. The bucket has just overflowed.

Keeping your home free of dust, mold, and animal dander can help as well, and the bedroom is the most important room to keep clean. Wash bedding once a week and hair daily during pollen season. Use the air conditioner in the car and keep the windows rolled up. Avoid being outdoors in the early morning hours, as that's when most things release pollen. Change filters on air cleaners and air conditioners frequently and vacuum often. Take a good multi-vitamin plus extra vitamin C during allergy season to keep the immune system running at peak efficiency.

It's a full-time job trying to avoid allergens, but to date, these are the best methods we have for making our lives allergy-friendly.
Reply:If I had to guess, I'd say your best bet is probably a desert state like Arizona or Nevada. My wife has allergies so I know what you are going through.
Reply:probably either new mexico or arizona.
Reply:any state that can grow dank
Reply:DON'T move, take a teaspoon of LOCAL honey each day and you will have NO air born allergies within a month or so. Your body will develop immunities-naturally- as you ingest the local honey. You will also notice that you are overall healthier and you don't catch every little germ that floats your way. This really works and its good for you unlike medications that dry out your body causing complications due to dehydration.

what are the advantages and disadvantages for the use of pollen anaylsis to reconstruct paleoecological environments

What are the advantages and disadvantages of pollen analysis?
Biological evidence is an important tool for reconstructing past climates and environments. One of the most widely used and successful techniques is that of pollen analysis. It is used to reconstruct the vegetation in the past. Paleoecological reconstruction also uses information provided in the extraction, recording and analysis of the fossil record. This provides us with a time framework and an idea of the flora and fauna during a certain epoch. The problem of fossils for dating and reconstructing past environments is that it is not useful for the last ten to hundred thousand years

  • How do bees turn pollen into honey?

Honeybees use nectar to make honey. Nectar is almost 80% water with some complex sugars. In fact, if you have ever pulled a honeysuckle blossom out of its stem, nectar is the clear liquid that drops from the end of the blossom. In North America, bees get nectar from flowers like clovers, dandelions, berry bushes and fruit tree blossoms. They use their long, tubelike tongues like straws to suck the nectar out of the flowers and they store it in their "honey stomachs". Bees actually have two stomachs, their honey stomach which they use like a nectar backpack and their regular stomach. The honey stomach holds almost 70 mg of nectar and when full, it weighs almost as much as the bee does. Honeybees must visit between 100 and 1500 flowers in order to fill their honeystomachs.

The honeybees return to the hive and pass the nectar onto other worker bees. These bees suck the nectar from the honeybee's stomach through their mouths. These "house bees" "chew" the nectar for about half an hour. During this time, enzymes are breaking the complex sugars in the nectar into simple sugars so that it is both more digestible for the bees and less likely to be attacked by bacteria while it is stored within the hive. The bees then spread the nectar throughout the honeycombs where water evaporates from it, making it a thicker syrup. The bees make the nectar dry even faster by fanning it with their wings. Once the honey is gooey enough, the bees seal off the cell of the honeycomb with a plug of wax. The honey is stored until it is eaten. In one year, a colony of bees eats between 120 and 200 pounds of honey.

Reply:I believe they digest it, and then regurgitate it back up. Seriously—honey is bee vomit.
Reply:Honeybees use nectar to produce honey. Nectar is a clear liquid that is found in flowers - it is made up mainly of water and the rest is sugar. They suck the nectar out of the flowers and store it in a their honey stomach (bees actually have 2 stomachs).

The bees then return to the hive and pass the nectar onto worker bees. The worker bees chew the nectar for about half an hour allowing enzymes to break down the complex sugars. They then spread the nectar over the honeycomb where it evapourates and becomes thicker and is called honey!
Reply:The bees make honey from nectar (sugar solution) not pollen. The flowers generate the nectar to attract bees to them, pollen gets attached to the bee when it is collecting nectar and then it delivers the pollen to another flower. This is how floers reproduce.

This is info on honey I found by a google search.

Honey is a sweet, thick sugary solution made by bees. The composition of honey consists of varying proportions of fructose, glucose, water, oil and special enzymes produced by bees. (Glucose and fructose are types of suger)

The first step in making honey begins when field bees fly from flower to flower collecting the sweet juices or nectar that a flower provides. With their tongues, the field bees suck out the nectar and store it in sacs within their bodies. After filling their sacs with these sweet juices, the field bees fly back to their bee hive and regurgitate the stored nectar into the mouths of house bees.

These house bees are assigned the job of adding enzymes from their bodies to the nectar. The enzymes cause the water in the nectar to evaporate-thereby turning the nectar into honey. Lastly, the nectar is stored in a cell of a honeycomb. Overtime, the nectar ripens and becomes honey.

    The buzz on honey...

    * Honey is one of the easiest foods to digest.

    * Honey is used in many cough syrups because its smooth, thick texture soothes throats.

    * As a result of honey's unique ability to readily absorb air, it is often used as a moistening agent in baking.

    * Honey comes in all types of colors and flavors. The color and flavor of honey depends on the how old the honey is and the kind of flower that the nectar was extracted from.

The pollen filter is located behind the glove box.

You will need to remove a plastic cover to remove the element which If I remember rightly is in 2 parts.

I think you will have to get the 2 cartridge elements from a dealer as the last time I tried a motor factors they were not quite the right size and would not fit.

Take an antihistamine DAILY, like Claritin. I use Alavert (same drug, but cheaper brand) every day for the same thing. It works very well for me. Some drugs work better for some people, etc. Talk to your doctor about finding one that works for you.

Hand pollination (also called "mechanical pollination") is a technique used when natural, or open pollination is insufficient or undesirable. The most common techniques are for crops such as cucurbits, which may exhibit poor pollination by fruit abortion, fruit deformity or poor maturation. Hand pollination is only an option on a small scale, but is a common technique by gardeners who transfer pollen with an artist brush or cotton swab. Sometimes the corolla is removed from male flowers and the flower itself is brushed against the stigmas of female flowers.

Hand pollination can be the simple act of shaking, with tomatoes and other self fertile flowers. Tomatoes grown in greenhouses generally need aid in pollination, and this has been done by hand or with an electric vibrator for a long time. Recently it has been mostly supplanted by cultured bumblebees.

    wind

birds eat seeds and poop them out somewhere else
    Reply:Wind dispersal and animal droppings.

Animals roaming through a field may pick up seeds on their paws, or which stick totheir fur to be carried off and deposited elsewhere.

Birds will also eat seeds whole, leaving them in their waste later in another area. THe seed can actually germinate and grow from this little 'deposit.'

  • I'm allergic to pollen, should I continue jogging ?

I used to jog in the morning, but lately the pollen allergies are so bad, will jogging outside make it worse or maybe help my body getting used to pollen ?

I'm allergic to pollen, should I continue jogging ?
Tenno: Jogging is good exercise. Exercise is good for overall health and the immune system, so you should keep trying to job during the pollen season. Pollen counts are generally low on damp days and still days (little wind). They tend to be highest in the early morning and again in the evening. If this is the time of day you jog, then get one of those masks to wear while jogging. Make sure it won't restrict your airflow, but will keep the pollen out. As soon as you come inside shower and wash your hair right away! You will be full of pollen and you don't want to spread it all over your house. If you have pets, keep them inside during this time of year as much as possible. That is because they bring pollen in on their fur also. If you are in the US you can use the link I provided to get pollen forecasts for your area.

As for getting used to pollen, immunotherapy is where you exposure your body to small amounts of the offending allergen in hopes that you will reduce sensitivity. It works for a portion of the population, but for many it does not. Some people will tell you to take local honey every day. The problem with this is that bees frequent plants that have heavy, waxy yellow pollen so this is the pollen they use to make honey. The allergy causing pollens are all white, dry, and very light. Bees don't use this type of pollen to make honey, so these pollens don't end up in honey.
Reply:You could try taking some over the counter antihistamines. Some can make you sleepy though so look for some which say "no sedatives included" or something similar. If these dont help you're doctor can probably prescribe something stronger to help you.

I only know in regards to cat allergies, the person can become used to their own particular cat and not be allergic to it, but remain allergic to all other cats. I suppose there is too much pollen around for you to learn to tolerate.

What is the pollen tube nucleus and the generative nucleus? what are its functions?

    Inside a pollen grain--

    There are two nuclei

1 ) Tube nucleus or Pollen tube nucleus = It forms a pollen tube when a pollen germinates on the stigma . The pollen tube then passes through the style to reach the ovary and the ovule towards the female gamete / gametophyte / Ovum.

2 ) Generative nucleus == It forms TWO Male gametes or the sperms or the sperm nuclei by division.

Both of them travel through the pollen tube till they reach the Ovum .

One of them fuses with the female gamete to form diploid OOSPORE OR ZYGOTE (It form embryo or the future plant )

The remaining one fuses with diploid secondary nucleus to form the endosperm nucleus ( The Nourishing tissue for the germinating seed / embryo.

I've heard of people using raw natural honey building from small doses to large as a way to treat this.
Reply:Unfortunately there is no cure, but there are ways to reduce allergy attacks. Pollen comes around maybe twice a year so we will have to deal with the yellow snow. Dust is around all year. If you dust often wearing a mask and get a humidifier it will help a lot. Using your allergy medicenes or taking your allergy shots will reduce allergy problems.
Reply:I have heard that eating local honey daily for a long period of time may make you adapt to your local pollen.

I am not sure if it works, but I am definitely going to try it out. It makes sense, given what honey is, but I don't know if the bees synthesize it too much to make it too different from its original state (and that which destroys those of us with allergies), or if taking enough of the pollen will cure us of it.

I have heard that it does though, like everything else in this world. Adaptation.

    Thanks everyone!

What to do with bee pollen?
I used to keep bees many years ago (1,000 colonies, hives) and I ate bee pollen by the table spoon plain without anything. I love the flavor. You can add it to anything you like as long as there is no heat added to what ever you are adding it too. No heat means nothing warm or hot. the heat destroys the natural properties of the pollen. Raw pollen should be consumed as it is, raw. The easiest way to eat it is to mix it with honey if you don't like it plain. Mix only what you will eat at one time. Use 1 Tbs. honey to 1 Tbs. pollen.

Oh! don't get the claritin D 24 only the 12 hour because the 24 can make you feel kind of shaky and wierd. Another good one is Advil cold and sinus also behind the counter but only lasts 6-8 hours. How do we obtain bee pollen and royal jelly from bees?

Beekeepers get royal jelly by tricking the bees into making 50 or more queens. This causes the bees to make a huge quantity of royal jelly that is added to the queen cells. The beekeeper then removes the larva and harvests the royal jelly.

The pollen is collected by adding a pollen trap which knocks the pollen off the bees as the enter the hive.

How do we obtain bee pollen and royal jelly from bees?
Royal jelly is a substance that bees produce. Female bees are diploid, resulting from fertilised eggs, and most of these become workers. in contrast, male bees are haploid, resulting from unfertilised eggs, and they become drones. However, of the female bees, at least one tends to be fed a substance called royal jelly, which is basically a substance that helps it grow into a queen bee. This substance is made by the other bees in the hive, I'm not sure how, but it is a naturally occurring substance somewhere in the hive.

I'm not sure what bee pollen is exactly, let alone how we extract it from bees.

Does avoiding walking under trees when one has tree pollen allergies help limit exposure?

Looking for ways to not get so much on me and in my car. Also, anyone know the best way to keep it off my car as my eyes water when I drive.

Does avoiding walking under trees when one has tree pollen allergies help limit exposure?
Pollen is so fine it is readily carried by the slightest breeze. Not walking under the tree can decrease the amount of pollen you take in through aspiration, and also does not allow the gross amounts to infiltrate your clothing to the highest degree. but one, without using a breathing apparatus can not eliminate it all.

Parking in a garage, or using a car cover can protect contamination from direct contact with falling, or blown pollen.

When in your car under those circumstances it is wise to recirculate the air in the vehicle. that will Keep out most of the air-born pollen.

Does anyone know how I can relieve dust and pollen allergy symptoms in pregnancy?
You can use a drug-free formula for pregnancy. My wife became allergic to ragweed, all legumes, squashes and most nuts after our first was born. For relief and airborne relief, you can try a saline nasal RINSE (not a spray).

Try a saline nasal RINSE (not a spray) A full warm water saline rinse goes in one nostril and out the other. It draws out all the gunk and shrinks the tissue (like swimming in the ocean). I've been doing it at work too.

The buffered salt doesn't 'sting' as much as plain salt water. You can use a new method like Nasopure, or the vintage, Netipot. The special bottle and salt is about $20.

You can do this a often as you like with no bad side effects.

You don’t need a prescription for this therapy. So if you live in a state like mine, they’ve pretty much “outlawed” sudafed medicine. Drug-free is really the way to go on a frequent-use basis. (I put in a link for “what” and “how” – there’s also some good info on wiki)

Reply:Check with your doctor. Mine gave me a list of medications that I could take for my allergies which get really bad in spring with things starting to bloom!

How might the fact that there are so many pollen cells help pollination occur?

It's all about numbers. More pollen increases the probability that a pollen grain will reach the stigma of a flower and initiate fertilization.

How good are bee pollen pills? Are they better than regular vitamin pills?

That's kind of a wierd question. Bee pollen is not a vitamin, so they're kinda not even the same thing. What is a "regular" vitamin pill anyway?

If you mean multi-vitamin, then I guess you're thinking of something with Vitamins A, Bs, C, D, E, and K, along with all the minerals you need, then no, bee pollen is not going to have all of that.

Bee pollen is very high in B-vitamins, probably higher than most multi-vitamins, and is usually considered to give you energy and help boost immune system, but if you're choosing to take one or the other, take the multi-vitamin. Bee pollen is not the first thing everyone should take, but maybe if you're taking 10-11 things already that are more important for your body, then you could add bee pollen to the mix.

Bee pollen is great, but not necessary. Anyone that makes a judgement that it's "better" than a vitamin is lying to you, since they're basically not the same thing.

It's kinda like asking if cats are better than dogs. Someone could say "yes" or "no" but they're both wrong, since anyone could argue it either way because they're too different to compare exactly.

If your are talking about the "cabin" air filter, It is located behind your glove box. Most likely, you will need to find the screws that hold the door of your glove box on. Then once you have removed the door you can find the screws that hold in the glove box, remove the glove box. Behind that you will see a small box. It has the cabin air filter in it. The filter usually slides out like the CD tray on your computer, but sideways. :)
Reply:I would assume it is located within your air filter, or the hose going to it from your intake.

  • Is pollen in the horses water bad for them? Is 2xweekly enough for cleaning?

The cleaner the water the better, but a little pollen in the water shouldn't hurt your horses. Horses are tougher than people give them credit for. They don't need perfect water all the time.

If you need some help keeping your water trough clean, put some fish in it. You can use those algae eaters (plecostamous) or goldfish (I prefer the plecos personally). They can have a hard time adjusting to the water so you'll have to buy like 10 or 12 of them and then maybe 2 or 3 will make it. And you have to take them out in the winter before the water gets too cold but it's kind of fun to have fish in the water trough.

Is pollen in the horses water bad for them? Is 2xweekly enough for cleaning?
Pollen is everywhere in the environment, especially this time of year. It's probably on your horse's hay and any grass they might be grazing on. Horses have been consuming pollen for millions of years with no ill effect. As for cleaning your water trough, if you want to clean it that often, that's great. If not, every two weeks is fine, too. Much depends on how dirty it gets and how often it NEEDS cleaning.
Reply:No, and yes, it's more than enough, especially right now. Pollen doesn't hurt horses- it just makes water look dirty. Our horses get pollen, hay, etc., in their water troughs all the time, and they are never bothered by it.
Reply:I like my guys to have clean water. I fill the tank 2/3 of the way and when it's almost empty I swish it around then dump and rinse.

If the sides of the tank are slippery when I slide my fingers across I will take a brush to it and a 'glug' of bleach...rinsing well after.

I keep my water tank under the run-in so it's out of the sun and blowing dust and the pollen.

Pollen won't hurt but sure does mess up a tank!
Reply:Pollen isn't hard on a horse, they're out in it every day...clean your tank as many times as it takes to keep it relatively clean..if that's three or four times a week due to either dust, hay droppings into the water or whatever then you'll need to do it.

What is the "pollen extract" used in pills that result in more ejaculate?

Pollen Extract does not make you ejaculate more at all. It is all in the vitamins it supplies you with. With more B12 or B6 and something with an A will help increase it. You dont need pills to mak you ejaculate more...all you need is to drink more water and save up or do the "Stop %26amp; Go" techique.

Does anyone know how to remove lilly pollen from clothes etc thanks?

Not really. I've tried lots of things, whatever u do don't rub it, just soak it first in liquid soap or powder then bung it in washing machine. Next time snip off the stamens to prevent it happening again, they can ruin everything! It's also poisonous to cats if they brush by it and the cats lick the pollen off their fur.

Does anyone know how to remove lilly pollen from clothes etc thanks?
    Lily Pollen stains.

Gently dab a strip of cello tape onto the stain.

The pollen will stick to the tape.

    Do not rub.

    Or

Pollen Stains. If lily pollen (the golden or reddish “dust” on the anthers of each bloom) gets on your clothing, let it “dry,” then carefully brush it away with a dry, soft brush or facial tissue. Or gently dab pieces of adhesive tape on the fabric until the pollen is gone. Do not brush the pollen away with your hands (oils from your skin will set the stain), and do not use water or a wet cloth (this will spread and set the stain). If some pollen still remains, place the item in direct sunlight for a couple of hours; the stain should disappear. Pollen stains can often be removed from washable fabrics with an enzymatic detergent such as Era.

[Ed: Carefully remove the anthers from the flowers as they open. Pollen can be "stuck" to flowers (such as lilies, arum, calla, etc) by giving the flowers a quick spray with hair spray if the flower is to used for a short use, such as a wedding bouquet.]
Reply:i would try any cleanser that removes grass stains, they are probably close in their chemical makeup--i use oxy clean.
Reply:squirt hairspay on the stain as soon as poss. then wash

Have you ever seen a wildflower with shiny silver pollen things?

In Riverside Co. CA, I saw some flowers growing on a hill. They had shiny silver pollen things, like aluminum foil. The flowers were small. I don't remember what color the flower was or what the plant or leaf looked like, I just remember the silver pollen things. The plant was about 3 to 6 inches tall. I have looked in the "Rare and Endangered" plant lists on every web site I could find. I went back every spring but I haven't seen them since. People drive their trucks up that hill to show off. They killed the wildflower patch.

What are some holisitic treatments for allergies as pollen is really bad now?

I was skeptical about this one at first, but go to your local health food store and ask for unfiltered LOCAL honey. It will contain traces of the various allergens in your area. They also give the honey a nice taste. It will probably not happen over night, but your body may develop a tolerance to your local pollen because of this type of exposure.

This will not work for everyone but pharmacologists tell me that some of the best performing drugs are only 40% effective anyway--meaning that 60% of the people who take some of the best drugs, don't get any results.

So at worst, you get to enjoy the taste of some very flavorful honey in your tea or on an English muffin...awww...what torture. :)

What are some holisitic treatments for allergies as pollen is really bad now?
Local honey! If it is a local flower you are allergic to, and if it is edible, you can make a tea out of it. I recommend a book we use at our School. It has detailed info about stayin in balace with the seasons and allergies.

I don't have it infront of me right now, but its "staying heathy with the seasons" get the revised version. it's very interesting. It also give natural liver clense reciepes, and detox info.

  • How many microns in a speck of pollen?

"Pollen grains come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and surface markings characteristic of the species... ...Most, but certainly not all, are spherical. Pollen grains of pines, firs, and spruces are winged. The smallest pollen grain, that of the Forget-me-not (Myosotis spp.), is around 6 μm (0.006 mm) in diameter."

So the smallest is 6 microns.

Why is Georgia pollen worse than Michigan?

I don't remember waking up to pollen covering my car in Michigan. Why is this so much worse in the south?

Why is Georgia pollen worse than Michigan?
The pine trees are what is producing the yellow dust that is covering everything.
Reply:there are probally more flowers/pollenating trees in the area.
Reply:Depends what time of the year it is. I live in New York and our high allergy seasons are when the weather is warmer(Fall%26amp; Spring). Georgia on the otherhand is pretty much warm year round which results in the constant presence of pollen...
Reply:has something to do with all that lake effect snow Ga. gets every year.

What is the role of Pollen grain in plants?

pollen garins are where male gametes are found in flowering plants

if there are no male gametes there is no sexual reproduction in plants

What is the role of Pollen grain in plants?
Pollen grain is a fine to coarse powder consisting of microgametophytes (pollen grains), which produce the male gametes (sperm cells) of seed plants. Each pollen grain contains vegetative cells (only one in most flowering plants but several in other seed plants) and a generative cell containing a tube nucleus (that produces the pollen tube) and a generative nucleus (that divides to form the two sperm cells). The group of cells is surrounded by a cellulose cell wall and a thick, tough outer wall made of sporopollenin.

So, It acts as the Sperm and helps as a carrier of ecological information in plants
