my allergies are bothering the crap out of me. i hate it cuz i am sneezing non stop. i am like highly allergic to pollen so it really sucks cuz i cant enjoy the weather unless i am super carefull or i will wind up in the hospital. haha. typical hailey for yah. :D

Reply:I grew up near the Ocean in NJ. Never had a pollen problem or Allergies. I moved to N.W, Arkansas in 1965 and have slowly but consistently have had increased Allergy and pollen problems. Especially the Oak Pollen, which litterally leaves a Green haze on everything. Eyes itch, sneezing and breathing issues.



Thank goodness it doesn't last too long and whenever it rains it clears it up for a couple days.



I've learned to wear a painter's mask when mowing and working in the yard in the Springtime. Oh, what a relief.
Reply:It bothers me more than anything else in the world. My co-worker cured her allergy problem by taking the allergy shot for 5 to 7 years. I followed her foot step and did it for 5 years. It doesn’t help me at all. That was a long time commitment with no guaranteed result. Most family doctors suggested me to just take allergy medicine during the pollen season. It’s cheaper and less painful. You might need to change your medicine each year since whatever works this year won’t work next year. That’s probably the reason why there are new drugs every year. I find that a little helpful to rinse my nose and wash my face often during this season.

BTW, I am from a sea island where seasonal allergy is extremely rare. I didn't have seasonal allergy before I came to America.
Reply:I don't know what part of the country you're in but I'm in the south east. For two solid weeks and part of today I have been MISERABLE! Sneezing, runny nose, itching skin, feel like a train has run through me. I mean Allergies to the extreme! Fortunately they are slowly calming down. I work outside so it has been an exhausting time for me lately.



Try to stay inside ;( till the worst passes. I know easier said than done. Get tested for allergies, find out ALL the crazy plants, trees grasses,etc. you may be allergic to, then you can look up pollen counts on the net in your area to see when you'll start going nuts all over again! Try some prescription allergy med. none of the over the counter stuff touches mine,except Benedryl, then I'm in a coma in 20 min. for the duration. I have to keep switching my Rx I think I get immune after a while and have to take something elsefor awhile

Reply:I live in Yonkers, New York and I never seen pollen before, but I know that it comes from flowers. I don't have Allergies or Asthma. In the spring and summer, I have dandelions and daffodils in the pants.



I sneeze non-stop everytime I throw up and its mot allergies that is causing me to do that.

Don't you think the "pollen count" is a funny term?

I find it really weird, because I don't think you can count pollen. I like hearing it, though.

Most definately it is my fellow P%26amp;Ser. How can they possibly count how many pollens in the air, do the pollens send them a telegram announcing their departure into the atmosphere

Can a cat be allergic to itself?

I've been having the worse allergic symptoms for the past two weeks. I have also noticed my cat, who also has allergies, has become more congested. It has been suggested that my allergies are the result of her shedding more during our hot summer. Can she be allergic to herself or are we both allergic to some pollen floating around? (I live in Southern Colorado and the sage pollen is severly high at the moment.)

Can a cat be allergic to itself?
My cat had allergies too. Take her to the vet, because a light dose of benadryl could help her, but you'll want to know the correct dosage.

How far do bees fly away from their nest?

I've always wondered this when I see Bees in my garden collecting pollen from flowers.

Does anyone know roughly the furthest they fly to collect pollen?

How do they know their way back home??

They cantypically go a couple of miles away from the nest, of course this is alos dependant on species as well.

They navigate using the sun, they will fly relative to a certain solar angle to a food source usually told to them by worker bees doing what is called the waggle dance (lets other bees know where the food is). So they fly relative to the sun, collect their pollen/nectar, then fly back relative to the sun again, but just in the opposit direction. They use the sun to calculate where they are headed, ants do the same thing (ants, wasps, and bees are very closely related you know Order: Hymenoptera)

It is also believed that bees can also recognize certain land marks that surround the nest, such as water bodies, flower beds, or certain trees. These landmarks aid them in orientation toward the nest.

production of pollen grains depends MOSTLY on the agents of pollination ( Insects, wind, animals , and birds ).



There is a great deal of wastage of pollen when it is carried by wind ( Anemophylous plant = wind pollinated plants ) .



So wind pollinated plants tend to produce enormous quantity of pollen .



All Gymnosperms are wind pollinated so they tend to produce more pollen. Pinus is a very good example.



In Angiosperms ( employing many agents for pollination ) the grasses ( Family = Poaceae ) produce enormous quantity of pollen as they are wind pollinated .

Reply:angiosperm plants create a male and a female inside the seed so they can grow super fast and reproduce





and gymnosperms have a long reproductive rate (they are naked seeds so they dont have an outer shell) becasue they are not self fertalized like the angiosperm so typical growth rate is 18 months



so go with angiosperms

How do I clean my shoes?

I have a black and white pair of slip-on vans (they are canvas) and they are very dirty with a red pollen type dust and some dirt and stuff and I would just like to know how to clean them, every website that I go to says lemon juice, but I don't want to mess up the black part of the shoes and I don't think that just soapy water will do the trick. Thanks in advance.

How do I clean my shoes?
cold water...gentle cycle. DO NOT put them in the dryer though. my husband wears the same shoes. this is what i do to clean them. works like a charm.

Reply:It sounds like the shoes are already messed up with the red pollen so you have nothing to lose by sticking them into the washer on a cold water cycle to prevent the bleeding of colors.

Better time of day to give Singular and Claratin to child?

My daughter is currently taking Singular and Claratin,and Im wondering if it would be MORE beneficial to her to take these two medications at specific times of the day? Like the Cingular in the morning, since that is when she is going outside(during the day) and will be confronted with all the pollen and such.. and then the Singular at night to curbe the cough and enable her to breath better at night? Or vice versa...Thoughts?

I take the same two combinations, and I prefer to take Claritin at night right before I go to bed. It lasts for awhile, then when I wake up I'm not uncomfortable and I can go outside no problem. I take Singulair in the morning, and I also put in eye drops a few times a day, to help with itchy eyes. In the end it's just apersonal preference, but I like to take it at night becaue I'm always in a rush in the AM and it takes awhile to kick in.
Reply:How old is your daughter?? Does she really HAVE to take these meds?? Is her health endangered? If she is young and taking drugs now, her health may be compromised . I believe in taking meds but not young children, the doctor told me that they can harm kidneys in young children. Search for other solutions like apple cider vinegar and honey. there are natural solutions to allergys. If you want more info on this write back and I'll try to help you with it.
