What are the best outdoor plants for someone w/severe allergies to pollen?

I am also someone with a lot of pollen allergies. For our backyard we went with a Japanese zen garden look. We used a lot of grasses, stones and small succulents like jade plants.

This supplies a variety of colours and textures without the pollens.

Reply:Yep, foliage plants ( not holly) . Flowering plants with heavy, sticky pollen , such as (cultivated varietes) Goldenrod (Solidago sp ) , that don't become airborne, will work also.





^ ps: Grasses put out lots of pollen , so not a good choice .

Maybe corn plants, [like the potted ones at garden centers], ferns, snow on the mountain, some types of hardwood trees, conifers? I agree, stay away from the grasses if possible.

larger leaves will catch less pollen and can be rinsed off to keep pollen out of the area.

do a search for non-blooming landscape plants for your area.

there are a lot that have colorful foliage and silver foliage so you don't get bored with green.
